Live Earth! Success or Failure?

Did you watch Live Earth? Did the message get across?

Al Gore, ex-vice president of the United States organised a series of concerts which were designed to get us to make practical adjustments to how we live in order to save the planet. Global warming was yet again centre stage as scientists and musicians voiced their concern about the role humans have upon the heating of our planet.

Critics suggested that the event itself was not eco-friendly and the BBC have said that the audiences for the shows was much less than that of the Princess Diana concerts. The concerts were held in a number of major cities from Tokyo to Washington. Wembley stadium hosted a number of acts from Red Hot Chili Peppers to Madonna.

Did the event have an impact on you? and how you will conduct your life in the forseeable future?

Here's a useful website - 20 ways to cut your carbon usage in your homes. Maybe more emphasis should have been placed upon real alternatives! Are there any you could do?

I only caught a little bit of the concerts as I live out in rural Canada. Canada is a huge country I know but you may expect people here to have noticed and thought about the message the concerts were trying to convey to people. No one here knew about it when I spoke to them? Is that an indicator of success?

What I did see on TV I found a little hard to swallow. Popular musicians were preaching about the earth when we all know they are all responsible for large carbon footprints, flying around the world promoting themselves as artists?
In my opinion there are many opportunites to make an impact on the future of the planet that do need bright lights and shallow lyrics to engenda change. They just need communicating on a level that really reaches people. We could begin talking about the motives behind setting something like this up, or am I just a synical person? All comments and suggestions are very welcome.
